Week 7: GPAC Cross Country Runners of the Week

(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following Cross Country Runners-of-the-Week for October 13-19, 2025. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2025-2026 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program. 

Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Cross Country Runners-of-the Week

Women Maddie Bergstrom, Midland University

Maddie Bergstrom of Midland University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week. Bergstrom, a sophomore from Kearney, Nebraska, paced the Warriors with a time of 25:22.54 at the Platte River Rumble on Saturday. She helped Midland to a 7th-place finish at the final regular-season race.

Men – Lucas Hjortkjaer, Midland University 

Lucas Hjortkjaer of Midland University is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week.  Hjortkjaer, a junior from Hvalso, Denmark, won the Platte River Rumble with a time of 25:23.55 on Saturday. He bested a field of over 70 runners that included athletes from several NCAA Division I schools (Creighton, Kansas City, South Dakota State). He bested his school record for the course by over one minute (26:56.0) in the final prep before postseason.
