Week 8: Men's Volleyball Players of the Week
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following Men's Volleyball players-of-the-week for contests played March 13-19, 2023. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2022-2023 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Men's Volleyball Players-of-the-Week
Attacker – Oguzhan Oguz, University of Jamestown (Opposite)
Oguzhan Oguz of the University of Jamestown is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Attacker-of-the-Week. Oguz, a freshman, from Bursa, Turkey, helped the Jimmies to a third straight regular-season GPAC championship with a pair of wins last week. He hit .354 with 35 kills, an average of 4.38 kills per set and now has 277 kills on the season, second-most in program history, and is already sixth on the Jimmies' all-time kills list.
Setter- Derek Correa, University of Jamestown
Derek Correa from the University of Jamestown is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week. Correa, a senior from Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, averaged 10.88 assists per set as Jamestown won its third straight GPAC regular-season championship. He had 54 assists in a five-set win over Ottawa (Kan.), then followed up with 33 assists and five aces in a sweep of Morningside. Correa needs just 34 more assists to break his own single-season record.
Defender – Michal Bak, Ottawa University (Outside)
Michal Bak of Ottawa University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Defender-of-the-Week. Bak, a freshman from Poland, had 21 digs and six blocks in a pair of matches against the top two teams in the conference. For the week he averaged a double-double, 11 kills and 10.5 digs per match. Bak averaged 2.6 digs per set and 0.7 blocks per set, including 11 digs and four blocks in a sweep of Dordt.
