Week 1: GPAC Football Players of the Week
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played the week of August 25-31, 2024. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2024-25 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Hauff Mid-America Sports/ Football Players-of-the-Week
Offense – DJ McGarvie, Quarterback (Concordia University)
Concordia quarterback DJ McGarvie is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. McGarvie, a senior from Valparaiso, Nebraska, led Concordia on touchdown drives on six of the team's first seven possessions as part of a 45-7 win over Waldorf. McGarvie played in the first half only and went 17-for-22 passing for 220 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for a 17-yard touchdown. The fourth-year starter extended his school record touchdown pass total to 58. The Bulldogs host Morningside on September 7. Kick off will be at 7 pm.
Defense – Zayne Wilson, Defensive Back (Midland University)
Defensive back Zayne Wilson of Midland University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Wilson, a junior from Olathe, Kansas, was a key piece in the Warriors' defense as they limited Clarke to seven points. Earning the start at safety, he finished with five total tackles and added a fourth-quarter interception. Midland's defense limited Clarke's offense to 157 yards of total offense and won the turnover battle with four takeaways. The Warriors host Dordt on September 7. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
Special Teams – Tyson Denkert, Return Specialist/Running Back (Midland University)
Tyson Denkert of Midland University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Denkert, a junior from Kenesaw, Nebraska, was explosive in the return game for the Warriors in their season opener. With Midland holding onto a 17-7 lead heading into the final quarter, he returned a punt 44 yards for the score that sparked a 28-point quarter. His play in the backfield added 174 yards on the ground as he finished with 306 all-purpose yards as Midland won 45-7 over Clarke. The Warriors host Dordt on September 7. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
