BJ Lawrence ran the anchor leg of the 4x100m relay on Friday evening in London during the semifinals of the 2012 Olympic Games. Lawrence, running for his native country of St. Kitts & Nevis, is participating in his first Olympics.

Olympic Update from London (from Doane Sports Information):

BJ Lawrence, a junior this past year at Doane, was scheduled to run in the 100m dash this morning for St. Kitts and Nevis. However, this morning following the prelims he was not listed in the start list for the First Round and we have not heard as to why he did not run... previously he had been battling a leg injury that could hold him out but as of yesterday he had been planning on running today (this confirmed through conversations with him as well as social media posts).

Doane's BJ Lawrence has been named the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the week for a second time in 2012. This week's honor comes on the heels of his Olympic qualifying time in 100 meters at the Doane Relays.

B.J. Lawrence of Doane has been named the NAIA National Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of The Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Lawrence was selected based on his performances from April 2 - 8.

BJ Lawrence, a member of the Doane College track & field team, participated this past week at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea. Lawrence (Omaha/Northwest H.S.) has citizenship with the Caribbean country of St. Kitts-Nevis and ran in the 200m dash and on the 4x100m relay. On Sunday, Lawrence and his teammates brought home a bronze medal in the relay.

Doane College senior Virgil Mitchell participated in the USATF National Club Track & Field Championships held in New York City this weekend, running for Team Nebraska.

Mitchell ran in three events at the meet, the 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles and a leg of the distance medley relay (DMR). He walked away with the 110m hurdles title, a fourth place finish in the 400m hurdles and a third place finish in the DMR.

BJ Lawrence's mind is racing even when his legs aren't.

He'd love a break, he says, but if he's not training, he's watching track on TV. Or looking up results on the Internet.

He's determined to be ready when he lines up with track and field's fastest stars at the world championships in South Korea in August and at the Summer Olympics next July.

In his first time competing at the U.S. Paralympic Championships, Dakota Wesleyan University track and field athlete Hunter Bork experienced immense success.

Bork competed in three events at the championships, which ran June 17-19 in Miramar, Fla. The Mount Vernon, S.D., native took first in the high jump, third in the long jump and eighth in the 100-meter dash.

The NAIA Track & Field Championships have been completed in Marian, Indiana, at Indiana Wesleyan University. Doane's men finished with 59 points and in second place behind Shorter College who claimed their first NAIA National Title.

[Men's Outdoor T&F] GPAC Outdoor Track and Field Honors Named for 2011

Honors for the 2011 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Outdoor Women's Track and Field Season have been announced. Doane's Jillian Ourada was named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete-of-the-Year. Ourada scored 27.25 points in the GPAC Championships for the Tigers. Concordia's Dana Schmidt was named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete-of-the-Year. Schmidt scored 30 points in the GPAC Championships for the Bulldogs.

The University of Sioux Falls women and Doane men claimed the 2011 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Orange City, Iowa. The 2011 GPAC Championships were hosted by Northwestern College at DeValois Stadium/Korver Field. The meet was run under nearly perfect conditions.
