[Men's Basketball] Dordt Top Seed in 2012 GPAC Men's Basketball Tournament

Dordt will be the number one seed when the 2012 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men's Postseason Basketball Championships begins on Wednesday, February 22. The Defenders went 17-3 in the league to win the GPAC regular season championship and also secured an automatic berth to the NAIA Men's Division II National Tournament in Branson. Dordt finished the regular season at 26-3. Northwestern will be the number two seed, Briar Cliff the three seed, Midland the fourth seed, and Morningside the fifth seed.

The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) is proud to announce the 2012 Wrestling All-Conference Teams. Morningside's Joe Sievert, at174 pounds, has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Wrestler-of-the-Year, while Morningside Head Coach Tim Jager has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Wrestling Coach-of-the-Year after guiding the Mustangs to the GPAC Championship.

The poor Saders Gold fourth-graders. Didn't have a chance the night Trevor Welp and his Clark Elementary Cougars laced up their sneakers for a basketball game in the North Middle School League.

Welp alone attracted a cheering section of about 20 young men, some standing 6-feet, 10-inches tall.

Grand View (Iowa), Campbellsville (Ky.), Midland (Neb.) and Southern Oregon claimed team championships in the NAIA Qualifying Group Tournaments on Saturday. The event serves as a last chance qualifier for individuals looking to punch their ticket to the 55th Annual Wrestling National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, March 1-3.

[Men's Indoor T&F] Doane Claims 2012 GPAC Indoor T&F Championships in Lincoln

Doane won the women's and men's Indoor Track and Field titles today in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the Devaney Center. The women scored 136 points, the men scored 175.5.

Briana Vander Woude from Dordt was the female outstanding performer with 44 points.

Edwin Ronoh from Doane was the male outstanding performer with 26 points.

The top eight in each event (including relays) are GPAC All-Conference.

The top performances of the meet and coaches of the year will be announced next week.

[GPAC] Day One of GPAC Indoor Multievents Completed at Concordia on Friday

Day one of the GPAC Indoor Track and Field Multievents took place on Friday at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, at the Indoor Track Facility in the Walz Human Performance Complex. The women's pentathlon completed their five events, with the men's heptathlon completing four of seven events on Friday.

The GPAC Indoor Championships will be on Saturday, February 18, 2012, in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on the campus of The University of Nebraska. Multi-Events will begin on Friday, February 17, 2012, in Seward, Nebraska, at Concordia University. The multi-events will conclude on Saturday in Lincoln at the Devaney Center.

Concordia University senior Tyler Byrd and junior Porter Birtell both moved into the 1,000-point club for their career total. Byrd topped 1,000 points in an 87-83 overtime loss to Dordt on Jan 7. Birtell pushed past 1,000 points on Feb. 1 during a 67-47 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan.

Morningside College's Kory Kistner, a junior 125 pounder from Sioux City, has been named the NAIA National Wrestler of the Week. Kistner won his only match of the week when he pinned Briar Cliff University's Nate Garcia in 1:08 to help the Mustangs wrap up the 2011-12 GPAC championship with a 42-3 dual meet victory against the Chargers last Wednesday. Morningside finished unbeaten in the GPAC with a 6-0 record.

Amber Kistler of Concordia (Neb.) has been named the NAIA National Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Kistler was selected based on her performances from Feb. 6 – Feb. 12 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

With their 85-68 win over the Concordia Bulldogs on Saturday, February 11, the Dordt College men's basketball team claimed the school's first Great Plains Athletic Conference Championship in the sport. The win, combined with Briar Cliff's loss, gave the Defenders the outright claim to the title and the number one seed in the post-season conference tournament that goes with it. Dordt has also earned a spot in the NAIA Division II National Tournament held at the College of the Ozarks.
