![]() DWU Will Host GPAC Men's Qualifier #1 at Wild Oak
The new Great Plains Athletic Conference golf format will make its official debut when Dakota Wesleyan University hosts the first of four GPAC Men's Golf Qualifiers Saturday at 9 a.m. at Wild Oak Golf Club in Mitchell, S.D.
The qualifying meets are a new format for the GPAC and the NAIA. The old format consisted of a 36-hole GPAC Championship Meet and a 36-hole Region Championship Meet, the latter of which determined which team would earn an automatic berth to nationals.
Instead, two 18-hole qualifiers will be held in the fall and two more will be held in the spring, and the total scores from all four meets will be used to determine the GPAC Champion and All-Conference teams, and the champion will also earn an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships.
The GPAC women will qualify two teams automatically for NAIA Nationals, while the men will receive one berth. On Saturday, the Tigers will also begin their defense of the GPAC Men's Championship. DWU won the conference title a year ago by shooting a 602 over 36 holes, which was 11 strokes better than the co-runners up, Nebraska Wesleyan and Dordt College. The GPAC Women will also play four 18 hole qualifiers with the first one on Monday, September 15, at Whispering Creek in Sioux City, Iowa. Morningside College will be the host.
