The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following women's and men'soutdoor track & field athletes-of-the-week for April 15 – April 20, 2008. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2007-2008 GPAC players-of-the-week and players and coaches-of-the-year awards program.

Field Events
Abby Schlueter, Doane
 
Doane's Abby Schlueter is the field athlete-of-the-week. Schlueter, a junior from Beatrice, Nebraska, placed first in the triple jump and second in the long jump at the Doane Relays. She became only the third athlete in Doane history to clear the 40 foot mark in the triple jump with a leap of 40-03.50 ranks her first in the GPAC and third in the NAIA. Her automatic mark of 18-06 in the long jump leads the GPAC and ranks her eighth in the NAIA. She also provisionally qualified for the NAIA National Championships in the 100 meter hurdles.
 
Track Events
Emily Wolters, Concordia
  Concordia's Emily Wolters is the track athlete-of-the-week. Wolters, a junior from Atwood, Kansas, posted a time of 1:03.11 in the 400 meters at the Doane Relays. The mark is a Concordia school record, GPAC leading time, and fourth in the NAIA. The time also qualifies her for the NAIA National Championships in the event.
Jen Kempers, Dordt
 
Dordt's Jen Kempers is the track athlete-of-the-week. Kempers, a senior from Sioux Center, Iowa, posted a career best time of 10:54.20 in the Steeple Chase at the Sioux City Relays. The time was faster than her 2006 NAIA National Championship time in the event. She also won the 800 meters in a provisional time of 2:17.72. Kempers was named the Women's College MVP of the Sioux City Relays.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes-of-the-Week
Field Events
Ben Zuch, Midland Lutheran
 
Midland Lutheran's Ben Zuch is the field athlete-of-the-week. Zuch, a freshman from Fremont, Nebraska, turned in his second 6-08 jump of the season at the Doane Relays. He also hit that mark at the Wayne State Open. The mark is an automatic qualifier for the NAIA National Championships and ranks him seventh in the country in the event. He also measured personal best mark of 147-08 in the javelin.

Track Events
Michael Saalfeld, Concordia
 
Concordia's Michael Saalfeld is the track athlete-of-the-week. Saalfeld, a junior from David City, Nebraska, won the 800 meters at the Kansas Relays with a time of 1:52.39. The time is the best in the GPAC this year and fifth in the NAIA. Saalfeld was the NAIA Indoor Champion in the 800 meters (1:54.34).

The 2008 GPAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships are on Saturday, May 3, at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa (Elwood Olsen Stadium)
