![]() Remmerde Inks WNBA Unrestricted Free Agent Contract Northwestern's Debbie Remmerde (Rock Valley, Iowa) has signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Houston Comets. The senior guard will head to the Comets' training camp, which will begin April 20. Head Coach Karleen Thompson's Comets' squad finished the 2007 season with a 13-21 record and was 18-16 in 2006. The preseason begins on April 27 with the regular season opener on May 17 against Detroit.
Remmerde, a 5-9 guard, was part of a Red Raider basketball team that won the 2008 NAIA D-II Women's Championship with a 35-2 overall record. Remmerde closed her career as the all-time leading scorer in NAIA D-II history (3,854) and averaged 28.3ppg over the course of her career. She made 97.2% of her free throw attempts over her four years and made a school record 481 three pointers, shooting 54.2% from beyond the arc. Remmerde was named NAIA D-II Player of the Year twice (2006, 2008) and was the most valuable player at the national tournament. The Red Raiders are coached by Earl Woudstra, the 2008 NAIA D-II Coach of the Year.
