![]() Honors for the 2008 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Indoor Track and Field Season have been announced.
Doane’s Abby Schlueter has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Indoor Track and Field Women’s Athlete-of-the-Year. She scored 24 points in the GPAC Championships for the Tigers. Schlueter won both the long and triple jump, while placing fifth in the 60 meter hurdles. Doane’s Paulvince Obuon and Hastings’ Scott Van Cura have been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Indoor Track and Field Men’s Athletes-of-the-Year. Both scored 20 points on Saturday in the GPAC Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska. Obuon won the 60 and 200 meters, while Van Cura won the weight throw and the shot put. Northwestern’s Charity Miles earned the Most Outstanding Performance-of-the-Meet for the Women, while Concordia’s Michael Saalfeld and Doane’s Paulvince Obuon earned Co-Most Outstanding Performances-of-the-Meet for the Men. Miles earned the honor for her record performance in the 3000 meters. Her time was 10:09.96. She also set the GPAC 5000 meter record earlier in the day with a time of 17:41.24. Saalfeld logged a time of 1:52.86 in the 800 meters and currently leads the NAIA in that event, while Obuon posted a 6.78 clocking in the 60 meter dash. He also won the 200 meters with a time of 21.84.
Northwestern’s Nate Wolf was named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women’s Coach-of-the-Year, while Ed Fye from Doane earned the Men’s Indoor Track and Field Coach-of-the-Year honor. The top Performances-of-the-Meet and the Coach-of-the-Year honors were voted on by the league track coaches. GPAC Athlete-of-the-Year honors went to the highest individual point scorers in the meet. Also, the top eight individuals in each event are considered GPAC All-Conference performers. The GPAC Indoor Track and Field Championships were held on Saturday, February 23, at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. |
