![]() Doane Sweeps Team Titles at GPAC Indoor Track and Field The 2008 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships were held today at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, on the campus of The University of Nebraska. Doane’s women scored 197 points and won the team title, while the Doane men scored 219.5 points in winning the team championship. Nebraska Wesleyan placed second in the women’s competition with 124.33 points, while the Prairie Wolf men also placed second with 152 points.
Abby Schlueter from Doane was named the Women’s Athlete-of-the-Meet with 24 points. She won both the long and triple jump and was fifth in the 60 meter hurdles. She is also the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete-of-the-Year. On the men’s side Hastings’ Scott Van Cura and Doane’s Paulvince Obuon shared the Men’s Athlete-of-the-Meet honor with 20 points each. Van Cura won the weight throw and shot put, while Obuon won the 60 and 200 meters. The two will share the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete-of-the-Year honor. Ten records were set on the day: Men’s 60 Meters – Paulvince Obuon, Doane – 6.78 Men’s 60 Meter Hurdles – Eric Risinger, Midland Lutheran – 8.16 Men’s 400 Meters – Chris Wolf, Nebraska Wesleyan – 47.97 Men’s 1000 Meters – Andrew Jacob, Midland Lutheran – 2:29.02 Women’s 60 Meters – Regan Carlstrom, Doane – 7.75 Women’s 60 Meter Hurdles – Holly Andrews, Nebraska Wesleyan – 8.76 Women’s 800 Meters – Olivia Johnson, Northwestern – 2:16.48 Women’s 1000 Meters – Kym Bennett, Doane – 2:57.71 Women’s 3000 Meters – Charity Miles, Northwestern – 10:09.96 Women’s 5000 Meters – Charity Miles, Northwestern – 17:41.24 The top eight in each event are considered GPAC All-Conference Performers. The Coach-of-the-Year and top performances of the meet will be released next week. |
