![]() GPAC Indoor Track and Field Honors Named The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following women’s and men's indoor track & field athletes-of-the-week for January 14 – January 20, 2008. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2007-2008 GPAC players-of-the-week and players and coaches-of-the-year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes-of-the-Week Hastings’ Katie Moeller is the field athlete-of-the-week. Moeller, a freshman from Grand Island, Nebraska, placed first in the high jump at the Doane Field Events Plus Meet with a jump of 5-7. The marke broke the Hastings school record of 5-6 held by Ellen Johnson (1996) and tied by Sharen Fidge (1997). Her jump currently leads the NAIA. Track Events
Olivia Johnson, Northwestern Northwestern’s Olivia Johnson is the track athlete-of-the-week. Johnson, a freshman from Milford, Iowa, placed first in the mile at the Bill Hillenbrand Open at USD this past weekend. Her time of 5:06.6 set a new school record. As of this week she would be seeded fourth in the event for the NAIA National Indoor Championships. Johnson was the 2007 GPAC Women’s Cross Country Athlete-of-the-Year after winning the league title. Field Events Nick Thixton, Doane Doane’s Nick Thixton is the field athlete-of-the-week. Thixton, a senior from Lexington, Nebraska, posted a jump of 46-03.50 in the triple jump at the Doane Field Plus Meet in Crete, Nebraska. His jump is the top mark in the NAIA this winter and automatically qualifies him for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championship. Track Events Andrew Jacob, Midland Lutheran
Midland Lutheran’s Andrew Jacob is the track athlete-of-the-week. Jacob, a sophomore from Fremont, Nebraska, placed first in the 1000 meters at the UNL Holiday Inn Invite at the Devaney Center. His time of 2:31.98 provisionally qualifies him for the NAIA National Championships. He was the only GPAC and NAIA athlete to win an event at the UNL Holiday Inn Invite, the rest of the events were won by NCAA DI, DII, DII, or community college athletes. |
