Story from the York College Website

The York College wrestling team was involved in a van accident on I-29 10 miles south of Onawa, Iowa on Friday afternoon in which sophomore Brock Pigorsch was killed. The team was in route to a tournament hosted by Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa on Saturday. Other wrestlers suffered injuries in the accident but they were not serious.

Pigorsch (21) was a sophomore majoring in Physical Education, 7-12 grades from Herington, Kansas. He transfered to York College in August of 2007. As a wrestler for Herington High School, Pigorsch was All State Honorable Mention in Kansas in 2005 as well as named to the 2004-2005 KWCA All-Academic Team.

His brother Brandon is a senior on the YC wrestling team. The team was transported back to York later in the evening.

“Words cannot express the overwhelming sadness that has made its way on our campus,” said Dr. Wayne Baker, York College President. “It is very difficult to lose one of your own in such a way and our hearts break for Brock’s family and close friends. I am confident that many are in diligent prayer, and I trust that God’s peace will be given in this tragic loss.”

“It is our desire to be respectful and very attentive to each of our students and the York College community as we mourn the loss of Brock. In order to protect the members of the wrestling team and their families, we are asking that media questions be directed to our media coordinator, Mr. Todd Sheldon (402-366-1455).”

Please continue to lift up the Pigorsch family and the wrestling team in prayer during this difficult time.

A memorial service for Brock will be held during the college’s chapel service on Tuesday at 11 a.m.

GPAC Commissioner Note:

The Great Plains Athletic Conference membership and specifically our wrestling coaches send their deepest sympathy to the Pigorsch family and to York College.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
