Cougars Win
GPAC Baseball
Tournament

The University of Sioux Falls won two games on Saturday and claimed the 2007 Great Plains Athletic Conference Postseason Baseball Tournament. The Cougars needed two wins over undefeated Mount Marty and the GPAC regular season co-champions got the job done. Championship game number one went into the 11th inning before the Cougars forced across the winning run in a 4-3 victory. In the second championship game of the day the Cougars defeated the Lancers 13-3 and won the tournament at Duncan Field in Hastings, Nebraska.

The GPAC Tournament Champion receives an automatic berth to the NAIA Region III Tournament. Since Sioux Falls won the GPAC Tournament, Briar Cliff has been awarded the number two bid to the regional for the conference. The third GPAC regional bid goes to Northwestern College. The Red Raiders had the next best regular season and conference tournament combined record this year.

The NAIA Region III Tournament is a six-team event (in Sioux City, Iowa, at Lewis and Clark Park – May 9-12). Sioux Falls, Briar Cliff, and Northwestern will join Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) schools Dickinson State, Jamestown, and Dakota State in the tournament. The NAIA Region III Tournament will be seeded and the bracket released on Monday, May 7.

The NAIA Region III winner will advance to the NAIA Plains Super Regional (vs. the NAIA Region IV winner).
