Sioux Falls will be the top-seed when the 2007 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Baseball Tournament opens Thursday, May 3, in Hastings, Nebraska. Sioux Falls and Briar Cliff shared the regular season championship in the league this year with 17-7 conference records. The Cougars gained the top-seed by way of GPAC tie-breaker rules and will receive one of the league’s three automatic berths into the NAIA Region III Tournament (May 9-12 at Sioux City, Iowa, and Lewis and Clark Park).

Briar Cliff will be the number two seed in the GPAC tournament, while Northwestern will be the three seed. Dakota Wesleyan will be the fourth seed, with Midland Lutheran the fifth seed. Morningside, Mount Marty, and Nebraska Wesleyan round out the six through eighth seeds respectively in the tournament.

The GPAC tournament will be hosted by Hastings College with games to be played at Duncan Field and the Smith Complex. The GPAC tournament will be played according to the NAIA-Baseball Coaches Association Eight-Team Double-Elimination Bracket.

The GPAC Tournament Champion receives an automatic berth to the NAIA Region III Tournament. If Sioux Falls wins the GPAC Tournament, Briar Cliff would be awarded the number two bid for the conference. The third automatic regional bid goes to the next remaining team with the best regular season and conference tournament combined record. The NAIA Region III Tournament is a six-team event with the winner advancing to the NAIA Plains Super Regional (vs. the NAIA Region IV winner).
