Northwestern Wins 2016 GPAC Cross Country Title
Men's Cross Country - Sat, Nov. 5, 2016

(Hastings, Nebraska) - The 2016 Great Plains Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Championships, presented by Cypress Risk Management, were held on Saturday, November 5, at the Elks Golf Course in Hastings, Nebraska.

Behind 1st, 6th, 8th, 9th, and 10th place finishes the Northwestern men won the 2016 GPAC Men's Cross Country title with 34 points.  The Red Raiders also had an 11th and 26th place finish in the race and won the school's first ever GPAC title in men's cross country.  Dordt was second with 69 points, while Morningside was third with 80 points.

The win gives Northwestern the GPAC automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships on November 19 in Elsah, Illinois, at the North Farm Cross Country Course.

Individually, Will Norris from Northwestern was the champion with a time of 24:35.18 on the 8k course.

The race was run in 75 degree weather with sunny skies in Hastings.

The NAIA will release a list of the additional team and individual qualifiers on Monday, Nov. 7.

The top-15 runners in the race are GPAC All-Conference and the GPAC Coach-of-the-Year for Men's Cross Country will be announced next week.
