Doane Women, Concordia Men win GPAC Outdoor T&F Championships
Outdoor Track Combined - Sat, May. 3, 2014

The Doane College women and Concordia University men claimed team titles on Saturday at the 2014 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Crete, Nebraska.  The Tiger women scored 255 points, while the Bulldog men scored 216 points.  The 2014 GPAC Championships were held at Al Papik Field/Lauritsen Outdoor Track on the Doane Campus. Concordia's women and Doane's men were runner-up.

The 2014 GPAC Outstanding Athletes were Courtney Mills from Hastings College who scored 37.5 points for the Broncos and Zachary Lurz from Concordia University who scored 26 points for the Bulldogs.  Mills, sophomore, won two of the six events she participated on the day, taking gold in the 100 meters (12.18) and the triple jump (39-05.75). She placed second in long jump and third in the 200 meters and also ran legs on the Broncos 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams that placed second and third respectively.

Lurz, a freshman, dominated the throws, taking a first in both the discus (168-01) and the shot put (54-04.00). In addition, he took third in the hammer throw with a distance of 183-09.  Courtney Mills and Zachary Lurz are Hauff Mid-America Sports GPAC Outdoor Track and Field Outstanding Athletes-of-the-Year.

The outstanding performances-of-the-meet (female and male) and coaches-of-the-year will be voted on next week.
