The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following runners-of-the-week for October 7-13, 2013. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2013-2014 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Cross Country Runners-of-the-Week
Women- Lauren Opp, Dordt College
Dordt's Lauren Opp is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women's Co-Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week. Opp, a junior from Garner, Iowa was the top GPAC finisher at the NAIA Preview Meet in Lawrence, Kansas, this weekend with an individual time of 18:28. She came in fifth overall out of a field of 268 runners on the 5k course. The NAIA National Championships will be back in Lawrence on November 23 at Rim Rock.
Women- Katie Smelker, Mount Marty
Mount Marty's Katie Smelker is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women's Cross Country Co-Runner-of-the-Wee. Smelker, a senior from Stratton, Colorado broke the Mount Marty women's cross country school record by 40 seconds in a personal best of 17:42 at the Briar Cliff Invite at the Adams Nature Preserve. There were 94 runners on the 5K course in McCook Lake, South Dakota.
Men – Ben Sievert, Concordia University
Concordia's Ben Sievert is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week. Sievert, a junior from Frankenmuth, Michigan finished ahead of all GPAC competitors at the NAIA National Preview Meet in Lawrence, Kan. Sievert clocked in at 25:28 in the 8K. His 13th place finish was out of a field of 272 runners. The NAIA National Championships will be back in Lawrence on November 23 at Rim Rock.
