The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played on October 12, 2013. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2013-2014 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Offense – Anthony Muilenburg, Wide Receiver – Dakota Wesleyan University
Dakota Wesleyan wide receiver Anthony Muilenburg is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Muilenburg, a senior from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, caught 10 passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns to lead DWU in its upset of 20th-ranked Doane on the road. His first touchdown was a four yard catch to tie the game at 14 in the third quarter, and the second was a 51-yard pass to put Dakota Wesleyan up 21-20 midway through the fourth quarter. Dakota Wesleyan hosts Morningside College Saturday October 19 at 1pm.
Defense – Derek Blessing, Corner Back – Concordia University
Concordia corner back Derek Blessing is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Blessing, a senior from Ogallala, Nebraska picked off a pair of passes and had three pass break ups to lead a Bulldog defense that limited Nebraska Wesleyan to 250 total yards and three points. Concordia, now 6-0 (5-0) will hit the road to Orange City, Iowa to take on Northwestern College on October 19 at 1pm.
Special Teams – Dan Porter, Kicker – Dakota Wesleyan University
Dakota Wesleyan kicker Dan Porter is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Porter, a sophomore from Plattsmouth, Nebraska went 4-for-4 on extra-point attempts and 1-for-1 on field-goal attempts (30 yards) to help DWU to a 31-20 upset of No. 20 Doane. He also faked a punt in the fourth quarter on 4th and seven and ran 14 yards for a first down to help DWU keep a drive alive. That drive led to a touchdown that tied the game at 14 for DWU. Porter also punted the ball three times for 92 yards, including a long of 40 yards, and kicked off six times for 344 yards. Dakota Wesleyan hosts Morningside College for a 1pm kickoff Saturday October 19.
