Field Events – Mauro Parnell, Doane
Doane's Mauro Parnell is the field athlete-of-the-week. Parnell, a senior from Omaha, Nebraska, broke the Doane school record in the triple jump with a mark of 49-11.00 (old record was 48-06.50 set in 1993). The jump meets the NAIA "A" standard as a qualifying mark. He leads the NAIA by 1-09 and the GPAC by just over two feet. He set a Field house and meet record at Concordia on Sunday in the Concordia Classic.
Track Events – Monte Larsen, Morningside
Morningside's Monte Larsen is the track athlete-of-the-week. Larsen, a senior from Neola, Iowa, won the 800-meters with a school-record time of 1:50.28 at the Buena Vista Invite. The time beat the existing record by over two full seconds. His time is the fastest in the NAIA by more than two seconds this season. Larsen also anchored the Mustangs to victories in the 1600-meter and 3200-meter relays. The Mustangs' time of 7:53.02 in the 3200-meter relay is the second fastest in the NAIA this winter.
