The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played on Saturday, October 13, 2012.  Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2012-2013 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program. 

 

Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Football Players-of-the-Week

Offense – Joel Nixon, Quarterback – Morningside College
     Morningside College quarterback Joel Nixon is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Nixon, a senior, from Wakefield, Nebraska, completed 20 of 28 passes for 395 yards and five touchdowns in #4 Morningside's 63-7 win over 19th ranked Dakota Wesleyan. Nixon also rushed for 40 yards on eight attempts accounting for 435 total yards of offense on the afternoon for homecoming in Sioux City. The 4th ranked Morningside Mustangs (6-0, 5-0) will play 17th ranked Hastings (6-0, 5-0) on the road this coming Saturday.*

Defense – Seth Wardyn, Defensive back – Nebraska Wesleyan University
     Nebraska Wesleyan linebacker Seth Wardyn is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Wardyn, a sophomore, from Grand Island, Nebraska was a defensive stopper for the Prairie Wolves this weekend in their 27-7 win at Dordt.  Wardyn opened the game with a pick-six interception of 65 yards to put the Prairie Wolves up 7-0. Warydn also had one pass break up and 11 solo tackles leading the Prairie Wolves defense to hold the Dordt offense to just 119 yards, one week after they put up 691 yards of total offense. This weekend the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves will take on the Concordia Bulldogs in a GPAC game in Lincoln.

Special Teams – Derek Blessing, Cornerback – Concordia University
     Concordia University cornerback/special teams performer Derek Blessing is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.  Blessing, a junior, from Ogallala, Nebraska, continued his standout year for the Bulldogs on special teams. Blessing had seven total punt returns for 118 yards in the Bulldogs 17-16 upset of #11 Northwestern. In the fourth quarter he made a big play for the Bulldogs returning a punt 50 yards for the game winning touchdown. The junior now has three punt returns for scores and ranks second in the NAIA with 22.1 yards per punt return. The Concordia Bulldogs will take on Nebraska Wesleyan University this coming weekend at 1 pm in Lincoln.
