The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following volleyball players-of-the-week for October 1 - October 7, 2012.  Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2012-2013 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program. 
 

Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Volleyball Players-of-the-Week

Player – Kendra Schwein, Hastings College (Outside Hitter)           
Hastings College outside hitter Kendra Schwein is this week GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Player-of-the-Week. Schwein, a senior, from Highlands, Colorado, helped lead the Broncos to a 2-0 record on the week giving the 6th ranked team in the nation a 17-3 record. Schwein had a big offensive week for the Broncos leading the team in kills per game and digs per game.   Schwein had 43 kills in two matches with an average of 5.38 per set, and she had 24 digs for an average of 3.0 per game. The 6th ranked Broncos will take on conference rival Doane and Briar Cliff this week.      

Setter- Kayla Gesink, Dordt College           
Dordt College setter Kayla Gesink is this week GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week. Gesink, a sophomore, from Sioux Center, Iowa, helped lead the Defenders to a 2-0 record on the week giving them a 17-4 overall record.  Gesink was the floor leader of the Defenders offense dishing out 93 assists, averaging 9.3 per set in leading Dordt to conference victories over Morningside and Midland (both in five sets). She also was a key contributor on the defensive end with 29 digs averaging 2.9 per game. This week the Defenders will take on Briar Cliff and will compete in the Bellevue Classic.

Defensive- Carli Smith, Concordia University – Defensive Specialist
Concordia University defensive specialist Carli Smith is this week GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyaball Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Smith, a sophomore, from Temecula, California, helped lead the Bulldogs to a 3-0 record on the week with victories over York, Briar Cliff, and Mount Marty. Smith's had 78 digs averaging six digs per set in the three victories.  For the season she averages 4.9 digs per set tying her for the GPAC lead. This week Smith and the Bulldogs will play matches against Dakota Wesleyan and Midland.
