The first edition of the 2012 NAIA National Football Players of the Week were announced Monday by the national office and Davis Bloemendaal of Northwestern (Iowa) received NAIA Offensive Player of the Week honors for the week of Aug. 27 - Sept. 2. He was chosen out of a pool of player of the week performers among the nine conferences and independents in the NAIA.

Bloemendaal, a 6-1, 200 lb., junior quarterback from Orange City, Iowa, threw for a career-high 336 yards and four touchdowns to lead No. 10 Northwestern to a 49-0 victory over Southwestern (Kan.) on Aug. 30. Bloemendaal completed 20-of-32 passes (.625), including touchdowns of 53, 21, 11 and 34 yards. He added 32 rushing yards as the Red Raiders set a school record with 649 yards of total offense. With his performance, Bloemendaal ranks fourth nationally in passing yards per game (336) and 10th in total offense (368). He also improved to 9-0 as a starter.
