The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) has swept the first honors awarded at the 2012 NAIA National Track and Field Championships in Marion, Indiana.

At the opening Hall-of-Fame Luncheon for the event at Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday the Doane women's and Northwestern men's track and field teams have been named NAIA Five-Star Champions of Character Teams for 2012.

The recipients are selected from a group of nominees by the NAIA Track & Field Games Committee. The Five-Star NAIA Champions of Character Award is presented to teams that have displayed exemplary character and sportsmanship on the field, on campus, and in the community.

The Doane women are coached by Ed Fye and the Northwestern men are coached by Nate Wolf.

The 2012 NAIA Track and Field Championships begin on Thursday and continue through Saturday in Marion, Indiana.
