Greg Heier, the Athletic Director at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, has been selected by his colleagues as the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Athletic Director-of-the-Year for 2011-12.

Heier has been the Athletic Director at Doane since 2006 and this past year the Tigers athletic program placed second in the GPAC All-Sports Trophy standings.  Doane was fifth in the All-Sports standings the prior three years.

In 2011-12 Doane totaled four conference championships and five league runner-ups, while 45 Student-Athletes will earn NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete recognition.  Doane won GPAC titles in Women's and Men's Indoor Track and Field, Baseball, and Men's Outdoor Track and Field. 

This past winter, under Heier's guidance, Doane dedicated Bob Erickson Court at the George and Sally Haddix Center.  Heier, a former Doane basketball player from 1981-85, played under Coach Erickson.  The Haddix Center opened in the fall of 2010.

"I want to congratulate Greg on this well deserved honor from the GPAC," said GPAC Commissioner Corey Westra.  "Greg has been instrumental in Doane's resurgence to the top of the GPAC standings in many sports this year.  Doane's teams and coaches are great to work with and that's a direct reflection on Greg's leadership.  I have appreciated Greg's background as a former student-athlete and lawyer in our conference discussions in recent years; it's an added benefit to have someone with his experience on our GPAC Steering Committee (Athletic Director Council)."          

Heier practiced law from 1988-1998 after earning his J.D. degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1988.  Prior to becoming Athletic Director in 2005 he worked in Human Resources and Risk Management at Doane since 1998.

Heier will receive a plaque from Hauff Mid-America Sports for his achievement.
