Nebraska Wesleyan came from eight strokes back and claimed the 2009-2010 GPAC Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the Prairie Green Golf Course. The Prairie Wolves shot a 306 on the day to end with a 72 hole total of 1241. Dakota Wesleyan had the best round of the day as the Tigers shot a 301 and tied Morningside for second place with totals of 1250 on the year. Northwestern placed fourth overall with a 1278 total.
In the medalist race Luke Vermeer shot a final round 77 and claimed the GPAC Golfer-of-the-Year honors with a four round total of 297. Patrick Hansel from Nebraska Wesleyan was second with a 302 and Cam Jacobs from Morningside was third with a 305.
Dakota Wesleyan and Morningside both advance to the NAIA Men's Golf Championships in Silvis, Illinois, at TPC Deere Run May 18-21.
The GPAC Golf Qualifiers were played in Orange City (Landsmeer), Lincoln (Wilderness Ridge), Lincoln (Firethorn), and Sioux Falls (Prairie Green) this year.
The top 10 in the final individual standings are considered all-conference with five at-large spots to be added in the next week. Coach-of-the-Year honors will also be announced in the near future.
