![]() The #1 Ranked Bronco Women Improve to 13-1 in the GPAC In a heavy weight match up between the #1 Hastings Broncos, the top team in the conference, and #4 ranked Briar Cliff, second in the conference standings, the home team out lasted the visitors 70-64 at Lynn Farrell Arena. The game was controlled by the Chargers' defense in the first half. They used their length to their advantageholding the Broncos to only 17% shooting, but the Broncos played tough defense as well. They held the top scorer in the country, Liz Grider, to only 4 points in the first half. BriarCliff was able to get a 10 point lead in the first half and took a 31-23 lead into the intermission. The second half saw the Broncos take advantage of their experience and the home crowd.
In the first 8 and half minutes,Hastings went on a 26-8 run to lead 49-40. The Chargers did fight back, butsenior Heather McKeon was too much late in the game.McKeon scored the last 7 points hitting a big 3 pointer with 35 seconds and then made 4 free throws to ice the game. Hastings followed their 17% shooting in the first half with 59.3% shooting in the second half. The lead changed hands 7 times throughout, and there was 4 ties. Lindsay Ducey led the Broncos with 24 points and Alicia Statler led the team with 9 rebounds. Liz Grider led the Chargers with 18 points. The Broncos will now face rival Doane College in Hastings, on Wednesday.
