![]() Raiders End Season in National Quarters Sixth-seeded Lee (Tenn.) upset third-seeded Northwestern (Iowa) 25-20, 25-12, 25-27, 25-15, Friday to advance to its first-ever appearance in the semifinals of the NAIA Volleyball National Championship Presented by Siouxland Sports Medicine Foundation in the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena.
Lee improved to 40-5 with the win over Northwestern to punch its ticket to the semifinals. The win earns the Lady Flames a 12:30 p.m. date against seventh-seeded Georgetown (Ky.). The two were both placed in the same pool during the first three days, with Lee taking the match against the Tigers in three sets, 25-22, 25-21, 25-20. Saturday's rematch will be only the second meeting of the season between the two programs. The match will be video-streamed at www.watchnaia.com and live stats will be available here.
Milica Krsmanovic posted her fourth match with double-figure kills, slamming down 16 on 32 swings, hitting .438 to lead the Lady Flames offense. Lee also had a 12-kill showing from Christa Hutchison. Lee finished the match with a .250 hitting percentage. Teaming together directing the offensive attack were Gretchen Higdon and Kelsey Leffew with 16 assists each. Higdon not only dished out the assists, but she provided a solid defense with 17 digs. Sarah Smith was also there defensively for the Lady Flames providing 15 digs. Northwestern posted negative hitting percentages in two sets and was only able to finish with a .097 clip in the loss. Despite having more kills than Lee, 52-47, the Red Raiders had 35 attack errors and also had 10 errors from the service line. Three Northwestern players finished with double-figure kills. Senior Randa Hulstein had 18 kills in her final match, followed by 13 kills from Hillary Hanno and 10 from Jennifer Jansen. Kaitlin Beaver handed out 45 assists. The Red Raiders close out the season with a 36-3 record. |
