![]() Third Ranked Red Raiders now 15-0 in GPAC Play
Northwestern swept Morningside by scores of 25-19, 25-12, 25-21 in Saturday's showdown of nationally ranked volleyball teams in the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Red Raiders, ranked third in the latest NAIA poll, climbed to 29-2 on the season and locked up the GPAC regular season title. Northwestern is 15-0 in the GPAC with one league match remaining (next Saturday at Dordt), while 16th ranked Morningside is in second place at 12-2. The Mustangs are 29-5 overall with a road trip to Nebraska Wesleyan and Doane remaining. Hillary Hanno and Randa Hulstein were the big hitters in the Northwestern attack with 15 and 12 kills, respectively. The Red Raiders' attack was especially impressive in the second game when they attacked at a .516 clip and the Mustangs had only three digs in the entire game.Emily Christen was the main cog in the Mustangs' attack with nine kills. Christen also paced the Mustangs' block with four block assists. Jessica Tjaden led the Mustangs in every other category with 22 assists, six digs, and their only ace serve of the night. Kaitlin Beaver had match-high totals of 38 assists and 15 digs for Northwestern, while Hulstein and Delainye Woudstra each had two ace serves.
Northwestern does secure a berth in the NAIA National Tournament by winning the GPAC Regular Season Title, Morningside also has a berth locked up as the host institution at this time. Box Score GPAC Volleyball This Weekend
