![]() Over $1000 Raised for Breast Cancer Awareness The volleyball programs from Hastings College and Nebraska Wesleyan University joined forces Tuesday, October 6, in Hastings to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. During the "Play Tough, Play Pink" game, over $1,000 was raised and fully donated to breast cancer research. This is the second year Hastings College has hosted the event, sponsored by Mary Lanning Hospital. 1,000 pink t-shirts were given out to the crowd, as well as prizes for winning raffle tickets.
For the match, the Broncos defeated the Prairie Wolves in four sets 25-17, 25-20, 17-25, 25-19. Kill leader for Hastings College was Kelsey Wells with 15, followed by Kendra Schwein with 12. Nebraska Wesleyan had two players, Brittny Barber and Laura Brammeier, hit 10 kills apiece. The setting duties belonged to Haley Beardsley for the Broncos with 47 assists, and Ashley Jedlicka for the Prairie Wolves with 34 assists. Melynne Kessler, libero for HC and Kelsey Elman, libero for NWU, had 27 and 19 digs respectively. NWU won the blocking battle with 10 team blocks to HC's 8 team blocks, yet HC hit .229 as a team compared to NWU's .126 hitting efficiency. The junior varsity teams also showed their support for the cause during their match, with Hastings coming out on top 25-20, 25-21. The Broncos volleyball program would like to thank all those involved in "Play Tough, Play Pink" night for their support, especially the players, coaches, and fans from Nebraska Wesleyan University for their contributions to the evening. |
