Vander Kooi Honored by NAIA
Jamie Vander Kooi of Morningside (Iowa) has been named the NAIA Volleyball National Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Vander Kooi was selected based on her performances from Sept. 28 - Oct. 4. She was chosen out of a po ol of conference player of the week selections among 25 conferences.

Vander Kooi helped guide the 14th-ranked Mustangs to a thrilling five-set road win over No. 15 Bellevue (Neb.). After winning the first set 25-23, Morningside fell in the second and third sets, but rallied back for the victory. During the rally, Vander Kooi registered the Mustangs' top-individual kill total of the season with 26. She also had 14 digs in the match and a pair of aces.

The 5-9 senior outside hitter hailing from Hinton, Iowa, then posted 14 kills each against Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) and Sioux Falls (S.D.) as the Mustangs picked up a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference wins. Morningside won 3-1 and 3-0, respectively. Against Sioux Falls, Vander Kooi set a Morningside three-game match non-libero record with 24 digs.

For the week, she posted three double-doubles, totaled 54 kills and hit .376 in three matches. She also contributed 56 digs, five assists, four aces, had a pair of solo blocks and assisted on three other blocks.

Nationally, the outside hitter ranks 14th in kills with 313 on the season and her 3.8 kills per set average lists her at 30th.
