The second and final day of the GPAC Women’s Golf Championships was played on Friday at the River Wilds Golf Club outside of Blair, Nebraska.

Dakota Wesleyan wrapped up their fifth straight GPAC Championship with a two-day total of 701. The Tigers gain an automatic berth into the NAIA Region III Championship this spring. DWU will be joined by runner-up Morningside (723), third place Hastings (724), fourth place Midland Lutheran (731), and fifth place Northwestern (740) in the regional. The top five teams from the GPAC Championship will participate in the NAIA Regional in the spring. The NAIA Region III Championship site has not been determined.

Hastings shot the best team score on day two with a 340.

Lori Wurdeman from Midland Lutheran claimed medalist honors with a two-round total of 166 (83-83). She is the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women’s Golf Player-of-the-Year. Jenny Bowen from Morningside was the runner-up medalist with a 168 (84-84). Nora Quinters from Dakota Wesleyan was third with a 169 (90-79).

Quinters' round of 79 was the low round of day two.

Michaela Carew from Briar Cliff placed eighth with a 175 (91-84). She qualifies individually for the NAIA Region III Championship. Any player in the top-10 qualifies, and all the other players were on qualifying teams.

The River Wilds Golf Club is an 18-hole Championship Golf Course located north of Blair on Hwy 75. Open to the public, activities include league play, junior golf programs, an open tournament schedule, golf instruction, and group / corporate golf outings. Our facilities include a driving range, putting greens and a newly remodeled clubhouse with a fully supplied Pro Shop.

The golf course operated by the River Wilds Golf Club was constructed in 1944 as a 9-hole course on land which, at that time, was adjacent to the Blair Airport (in fact the course wrapped around one end of the runway). For more than half a century the course was owned and operated by the Blair Golf Club as a private members-only golf course. In the mid 90`s the airport was relocated south of town, and in 1998 the Blair Golf Club began construction to expand the course to 18 holes (9 new holes were built and two were altered). The expanded course opened in July of 1999, and continued to operate under the ownership of the Blair Golf Club through the 2000 season.

In early spring of 2001 the golf course was purchased by Perfect Drive LLC. Perfect Drive LLC opened the course in April of 2001 as a fully public golf course, under the name River Wilds Golf Club. The name "River Wilds" was chosen to reflect both the location of the course on the edge of the Missouri River Valley, as well as the spirit of Blair as a river city. The new ownership made many improvements in 2001, including adding cart paths, new bridges, and completely remodeling the clubhouse. They are committed to providing a quality golf environment to the Eastern Nebraska / Western Iowa area for many years to come.
