Nebraska Wesleyan overcame a five stroke deficit and claimed the 2008-2009 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa, at Whispering Creek. The Prairie Wolves shot a final 18 hole round total of 310 to claim GPAC Men's Qualifier #4 and the league title. Dakota Wesleyan placed second and the Tigers will move on to represent the GPAC in the NAIA National Men's Golf Championships in Silvis, Illinois (Quad Cities) at the TPC Deere Run. The Championships will run May 19-22. NWU participates in NCAA Division III for postseason competition. Host Morningside ended the season in third place, while Dordt placed fourth and Hastings fifth. 

Individually Midland Lutheran's Justin Zebolsky shot a round of one over par 73 and claimed the qualifier and the medalist honors for the 2008-2009 season. His four round, sub 300, score of 296 earns him Hauff Mid-America Sports GPAC Men's Golfer-of-the-Year Honors. Zebolksky, with the win, qualifies individually for the NAIA National Championships. E.J. Hamilton from Nebraska Wesleyan was the runner-up medalist with a 300. He shot a 77 on Tuesday. Nick Gates from Dakota Wesleyan and Jared Rempel from Dordt tied for third with 72 hole totals of 302.

2008-2009 was the first year that the GPAC used four individual 18 hole qualifiers and 72 holes to determine the league champion and national tournament qualifiers. Dakota Wesleyan (Wild Oak), Doane (Wilderness Ridge in Lincoln), Hastings (Lochland), and Morningside (Whispering Creek) hosted qualifiers this season.

The top ten finishers that played in all four qualifiers are automatically earn GPAC All-Conference honors, five additional at-large players will be named to the team along with the GPAC Coach-of-the-Year. These honors will be released in the next two weeks.
