The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following outdoor track & field player-of-the-week for April 6 - April 12, 2009. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2008-2009 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes-of-the-Week
Field Events
Crystal Vander Zee, Dordt College
  Dordt's Crystal Vander Zee is the track athlete-of-the-week. Vander Zee, a freshman from South Holland, Illinois, won the 100 meter dash, long jump, and triple jump events at the Red Raider Open. She won the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.26 seconds into the wind. She took the title in the triple jump with a leap of 11.09 meters and the long jump with a distance of 5.36 meters.

Track Events
Bethany Sutton, Concordia
 
Concordia's Bethany Sutton is the track athlete-of-the-week. Sutton, a sophomore from Lincoln, Nebraska, placed sixth the 800 meter run at the Ed Weir Outdoor Invite in Lincoln, Nebraska with a time of 2:13.79 minutes. Sutton hit an automatic mark in the 800m run and set a new Concordia University school record. The time is the eighth fastest in the NAIA this week.

Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes-of-the-Week
Field Events
Jared Schuurmans, Doane
 
Doane's Jared Schuurmans is the field athlete-of-the-week. Schuurmans, a junior from Norfolk, Nebraska, won the shot put and discus events at the Doane/Concordia dual meet. In the shot put, his mark was 54-3.75 and in the discus he measured 168-04. Both are NAIA national qualifying marks and rank in the top three marks in the NAIA this year and are GPAC leading marks.

Track Events
Virgil Mitchell, Doane College
  Doane's Virgil Mitchell is the track athlete-of-the-week. Mitchell, a sophomore from Omaha, Nebraska, won 110 meter hurdle and the 400 meter hurdle events at the Doane-Nebraska Wesleyan Dual. In the 110 meter hurdles, his time was 14.35 seconds and in the 400 meter hurdles his time was 53.36 seconds. His times were NAIA qualifying times. His time in the 110 meter hurdles current is the top mark in the NAIA.
