Mustangs End Season In Friday Second Round Action
Mustangs End Season In Friday Second Round Action
Fifth ranked Black Hills State (S.D.) won its 14th straight game as they knock off #12 Morningside (Iowa), 84-73. The Yellow Jackets advance to the Elite Eight for the third time in their history but first since the 1999 season. The 18th annual event is being held at the Keeter Gymnasium on the campus of the College of the Ozarks (Mo.).
The Yellow Jackets, who have not lost since January 17 (Chadron State, 64-42), led from the start as they began the game with a 6-0 run. Leading by six, BHSU went on a 9-2 run in which they held the Mustangs scoreless for over four minutes. Black Hills State pushed the lead to as much as 18 (42-24) before Morningside scored seven straight points near the end of the half to trail 44-31 at intermission. The Mustangs struggled from the perimeter, making just 1-of-11 from the three-point line.

Black Hills State continued to lead by double-digits until Morningside converted three consecutive three-point plays to put the score at 64-58. Seth Atkins hit a jumper in the lane to cap an 11-1 run that put Morningside down three (65-62) with five minutes to go. Black Hills State answered back, however, as Luke Enos netted 19 of his game-high 26 points in the second half to lead the Yellow Jackets to victory.

Enos also pulled down 13 rebounds for the double-double. Clay Pottorff totaled 19 points and Clay Atkinson added 11 for Black Hills State. The Yellow Jackets controlled the glass, 47-39, and shot 43% for the game.

Morningside was led by Eddie Marrs and Seth Atkins with 21 and 19 points, respectively. After struggling from the perimeter in the first half, Morningside shot 57% in the second half from beyond the arc. They shot 40% for the game. The Mustangs end the season with a 24-8 record.
