Doane Women and Men Claim GPAC Indoor Track and Field Titles
Men's Indoor T&F - Sat, Feb 21, 2009

The 2009 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships were held today at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, on the campus of The University of Nebraska.

Doane's women scored 183.5 points and won the team title, while the Doane men scored 186 points, winning the team championship. Concordia took a second place stake in both Men's and Women's competition. The Women's team totaled 123 points while the Men's team racked up 138 points.
 
Charista Zehnder from Concordia was named the Women's Athlete-of-the-Meet with 27.5 points. Zender placed first in the 60 meters and long jump, with a first place team finish in the 4x400 meter relay. She also placed fourth in the 200. On the Men's side Colin Koth from Sioux Falls claimed the Men's Athlete-of-the-Meet honor with 26.5 points. Koth won the 200 and 400 individually and was on the winning 4x400 meter relay team. He also placed fifth in the long jump.

Six new GPAC Indoor records were set on the day:
Men's 60 Meter Hurdles - Eric Risinger, Midland Lutheran - 8.05
Men's 800 Meter Run - Michael Saalfeld, Concordia - 1:51.97
Men's 3000 Meter Run - Zach Meineke , Concordia - 8:34.78
Men's 5000 Meter Run - Luka Thor, Concordia - 14:56.22
Women's 200 Meter Dash - Anne Kersenbrock, Nebraska Wesleyan - 25.46
Women's 5000 Meters - Jackie Spelts, Nebraska Wesleyan - 17:29.73

The top eight in each event are considered GPAC All-Conference Performers. The Coach-of-the-Year will be released next week.
