Dana College has claimed the 2009 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) wrestling regular season championship . The Vikings traveled to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to face off against the University of Sioux Falls. Dana took a 35-10 victory over USF. The win gave Dana the outright GPAC championship with a perfect 6-0 dual mark.

Dana College, currently ranked ninth in the latest NAIA Poll, won seven of ten matches against Sioux Falls. In the dual's opening match, Matt Jacobsen (JR, Craig, Neb.) defeated Doug Thompson 15-5 at 133 pounds. Ty Costa (SO, Ceres, Calif.) stretched the Vikings' lead to 9-0 at 141 pounds. Costa pinned Tom Thompson in 1:37 for the win. Torey Seminara (SR, Pearl City, Hawaii) gave Dana its second straight win by pin at 149 pounds. Seminara stuck Jacob McClure 22 seconds into the first period. USF finally got onto the scoreboard at 157 pounds. Dana's Dan Pray (SR, St. George, Kan.) lost a 4-3 decision to Koln Fink. Ryan Tuzon (SR, Kahului, Hawaii) got the Vikings back into the win column at 165 pounds. Tuzon took an 18-3 technical fall win over Tyler Reibsamen. Josh Ghobadpoor (JR, Dahlonega, Georgia) won his match at 174 pounds. Ghobadpoor took a 10-4 win over Travis Gobersen. Sal Barbuto (JR, Moorestown, New Jersey) lost a 13-4 major decision to Trevor deBraga at 184 pounds. The Vikings won the 197 pound and Heavyweight matches via default. John Schmalz (SO, Kansas City, Missouri) and Jon Wilbourne (JR, Lake Stevens, Wash.) were credited with the victories. Travis Okano (FR, Lahaina, Hawaii) wrestled the last match of the evening at 125 pounds. Okano lost a 5-4 decision to Chris Strand.

The win gives Dana its third consecutive Great Plains Athletic Conference championship. The Vikings end their dual season with an 8-3 overall record and were 6-0 in GPAC duals. The Vikings are coached by Beau Vest.

Dana College will host the GPAC Tournament on February 14 with matches starting at 9:00am in the Gardner-Hawks Center.
