The Mustangs Received Ten First Place Votes and Totaled 33 Wins Last Year

Morningside College received ten first place votes and totaled 142 points and is the preseason coaches' selection to win the 2008-2009 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) women's basketball title. The Mustangs, coached by Jamie Sale, posted a perfect 18-0 league record last year and finished in the NAIA Semifinals with a 33-4 mark. Hastings, also a National Semifinalist in 2008, is tabbed second with 129 points and two first place votes. The Broncos posted 30 wins last winter. The final first place vote went to Northwestern who was picked fourth in the league preseason poll with 108 points. The Red Raiders were the 2008 NAIA Division II National Champions with a 35-2 record. Northwestern also won the GPAC Postseason Championship. Concordia, with 123 points, was picked third in the early season tabulation.

Points were awarded on a 12-1 basis and coaches' could not vote for their own team.
