Scholar Athletes

The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) is proud to announce that 641 student-athletes have earned Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors for 2015-2016.  In addition, 164 teams in the GPAC were honored as NAIA Scholar-teams.

Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes must be juniors or seniors, total a 3.50 or higher Grade Point Average (GPA), and be a member of a varsity team.

Concordia University Nebraska led the conference with 92 scholar-athletes for the academic year.  Nebraska Wesleyan totaled 88 honorees, with Hastings posting 63 scholar-athletes. Concordia also was the winner of the 2013-14 and the 2014-15 GPAC-Christopherson All-Academic Awards.

The Christopherson All-Academic Award, which began in 2005-2006, is named in honor of former Dana College President Dr. Myrvin Christopherson's faithful and long-term service to student-athletes in the GPAC.  Dr. Christopherson retired following the 2004-2005 academic year after 19 years of dedicated leadership at Dana College.

In addition, 164 teams within the GPAC were also honored as NAIA Scholar-Teams. The NAIA announced that 1,590 teams from around the nation had earned Scholar-Team honors by posting a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the 2014-2015 academic year. Concordia led the GPAC and the NAIA with 20 teams on the list.

The GPAC has over 5,000 student athletes in 19 sanctioned conference sports. This marked the first year the cheer and dance were able to receive Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.
