Gabe Wickham

Hastings thrower Gabe Wickham is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men's Field Athlete of the Week. Wickham, a senior from Phillipsburg, Kansas, won the weight throw at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invite (Devaney Center at Nebraska) by breaking his own school record and setting an NAIA leading mark of 69 feet - 5 ½ inches. This is the farthest throw in the NAIA since a 2006 toss of 69 feet 4 inches by Will Moman from Doane.

Josiah Simburger
Northwestern College
Northwestern wrestler Josiah Simburger is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-American Sports Wrestler of the Week. Simburger, a senior from Mandan, North Dakota, went 7-0 on the week winning the 141 pound weight class at the York Open with a 6-0 record. He had impressive victories over NAIA's #12 ranked wrestler Christian Hernandez from Bacone (winning 16-5 in a major decision). He also defeated the second ranked wrestler in the NAIA North Group (Alex Stapanek of Concordia) with a 7-0 decision. Also in the York open he picked up a win against a NCAA Division I Chad Stroh from Nebraska 9-6. Northwestern won a dual over Hastings (36-9) earlier in the week. In that match Simburger won over Garth Ginder in a major decision 11-3.

Brittany Alfredson
Morningside College
Morningside guard Brittany Alfredson is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Player-of-the-Week. Alfredson, a senior from Moville, Iowa, averaged 15 points and eight rebounds per game in a pair of Mustang wins on the road (at #7 Northwestern and at RV Doane). For the week she was 10-13 from the floor (77%), made 3-6 three point shots, and was 7-8 at the foul line. Morningside is now 16-6 overall and 10-3 in the GPAC.

Briar Cliff University
Briar Cliff guard Taylor Murren is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Player-of-the-Week. Murren, a junior from Wahoo, Nebraska, averaged 18 points per game on the week in a pair of wins for the 18th ranked Chargers. For the week he made 12-21 shots from the floor, including eight three point shots. He also went 4-4 at the foul line as Briar Cliff improved to 15-6 overall and 9-3 in the GPAC.

Nebraska Wesleyan University
Nebraska Wesleyan runner Hannah Kinberg is the week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women's Track Athlete of the Week. Kinberg, a senior from Lincoln, Nebraska, won the 5,000 meter run at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invite with a time of 17:37.7. The clocking is the fastest time in the GPAC by over 30 seconds this season. Her performance at the Devaney Center also gives her the third best time in school history at NWU.

Hastings thrower Abby Griffith is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Griffith, a junior from Aurora, Nebraska, won the shot put at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invite with a mark of 45.25. This meet consisted of tough competition with 30 competitors in the event at the Devaney Center. Her mark ranks her 4th in the NAIA at this point in the season.

Men's Indoor Track Athlete of The Week

Doane College
Doane sprinter BJ Lawrence is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men's Track Athlete of the Week. Lawrence, a junior from Omaha, Nebraska, ran away with victories in the 60 and 200 meter dashes at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invite (Devaney Center). His times of 6.73 in the 60 meters and 21.74 in the 200 meters are both automatic NAIA qualifying marks. Lawrence now has the nation's best time in the 200 meters and is currently ranked second in the 60 meters.

Monte Larsen of Morningside (Iowa) has been named the NAIA National Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and Raheem Cowan of Briar Cliff (Iowa) has been tabbed as the NAIA National Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Larsen and Cowan were selected based on their performances from Jan. 9 – 15.

Nate Polak, senior from Hastings College and Lincoln, Nebraska, has been selected by the New York Red Bulls in the 4th round of the Major League Soccer (MLS) supplemental draft.  He becomes the first player in Hastings and GPAC history to be selected in the MLS draft.
